Symposium INNOHORT 2015, Avignon, 8-12 Juin 2015
Aim and Scope of the Symposium
The production of fruits and vegetables will have to improve in the near future, in order to feed a growing and knowing population, while facing global changes and environmental issues. This entails limiting the dependence of horticulture on external inputs, promoting high standards of produce quality and maximizing ecosystem services.
INNOHORT symposium will bring together researchers from a wide horizon, willing to share their views and knowledge to design the integrated and organic horticultural cropping systems of tomorrow. Scientific breakthroughs also rely on the integration of different forms of knowledge in the innovation process.
One ambition of this symposium is also to examine to what extent gaps can be bridged between scientists from different backgrounds, between researchers and stakeholders, between research and action.

From 2012 Vlamings has been actively seeking control methods for the Suzuki-fruit fly (Drosophila suzukii). In 2014, the number of captured flies, but also the damage in small and stone fruit increased substantially. Partly as a result of mild winters and optimal climate during the summer months. In addition to disseminating knowledge about e.g. the life of this insect, Vlamings also foresees the need for special traps with attractants for monitoring and various "control measures" (mechanical, biological and / or chemical). Prevention and good industrial hygiene plays the crucial role in many crops to keep manageable damage by this fruit fly.
Through newsletters (Fruit Tips) we keep our customers informed of current developments surrounding this fly during the season. Monitoring, identification and advice, preferably durable, pest control, our crop advisors for you ready. Examples of sustainable methods are the use of special mosquito (insect mesh) and the use of natural enemies such as insect-parasitic nematodes. Through practical tests we seek to address the problem jointly with the sector in the coming years, which of course also international knowledge is gained.
